Audrey’s Retirement Celebration
A letter from Senator Freddie Powell Sims:
Along life’s journey, we meet thousands of individuals. Some of them make impactful storylines in our lives, good and bad! But the rarity found in my life was a beloved friend, confidant, and a “third sister!” The tears begin to flow as I realize that this beloved friend is leaving my professional side forever.
For the last few years, Audrey Murphy Lee has talked about retirement. I have ignored the conversations, changed the conversations, offered great options for remaining, until one day she came in with separation papers! No one can imagine the devastation that was felt by Senator Jackson and I.
After 32 years at the Georgia State Capitol, Audrey Murphy Lee leaves behind one of the greatest public employee legacies that I have witnessed in my lifetime. Her kind and gentle spirit was and is an everyday occurrence, always balanced, in control, and a class act! She never used disparaging harmful words to address anyone, (even if warranted). She always left that up to me!
The Capitol will miss her terribly! We will do our best to move forward without her warm smile and display of perfect business decorum, though it will be tough. We love you Audrey; I love you like a sister!
For those of you wishing to celebrate Audrey’s retirement, there is a GoFundMe available below.Thank you so very much.
