MARLON GILBERT, MED.

Marlon Gilbert is an Eighth Grade Math teacher at Randolph – Clay Middle School, who is making his lifetime dream a reality. Being a generational educator, where he watched his mother excel in the profession, Marlon knew that he wanted to be an educator early on. He often played “teacher” and only allowed himself to be the teacher amongst his peers.

Born and raised in Cuthbert, GA, Marlon is the son of Jonathan and Janice Wilburn Gilbert. He was educated in the Randolph County School District and graduated with honors in May 2011. He continued his education at The Fort Valley State University where he majored in Middle Grades Education. During his undergraduate matriculation, Marlon realized that many hometown educators paved the way for his success. Through this realization and constant reminder, he developed a love and passion for giving back to his community. Marlon began working with community members to provide mentorship to students just like him. He longed to return home and plant seeds into the students of Randolph County.

Upon graduation in May 2015, Marlon returned to Randolph County Schools to begin his dream career. He has since served students in grades 4-12 as a Math and Science teacher, and a football and basketball coach. As a teacher in Randolph County, Marlon has been named the Randolph - Clay Middle School Teacher of the Year, and the Randolph County School District Teacher of the Year.

Marlon has extended his professional knowledge by obtaining his Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction and Educational Leadership from Columbus State University. He will graduate from Albany State University in May 2021 with his Education Specialist in Educational Leadership. Mr. Gilbert is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and an active member in many community initiatives. He truly believes that it takes a village to raise a child, and millennials must receive the torch from preceding generations. It is his hope to serve as a village member and be the light that he received from others for years to come.
